2020 Mitsubishi ASX breaks cover at Geneva Motor Show

Mitsubishi has pulled the cover off their next-generation ASX at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The new Mitsubishi ASX (a significant facelift over the previous model) boasts a new design and petrol engine, as well as better technology.

Design

The 2020 ASX has a bold new look with Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” design, which Mitsubishi says expresses high performance and a sense of protection. It’s the very same design language found on the new Mitsubishi L200. and if anything else, it looks modern and classier than anything Mitsubishi has produced before.

Those tapered headlights which curve into the front grille are full LEDs and there’s Auto High Beam to automate country road trips. The new front bumper is chunkier than before with powerful shoulder lines which extend to the taillights.

A few new warm pallet paint colours have also been added to the range. These include Red Diamond, a very fetching Sunshine Orange and Oak Brown.

Engine and 4WD

Under the hood, the new ASX  is powered by a new 2.0-litre (non-turbo) petrol engine which has been engineered to deliver the perfect performance and economic balance. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, or you can have a CVT auto.

As before, the 2020 ASX comes as standard with a driver-selectable 4-wheel drive system. This lets you switch between 2WD for economy and 4WD for traction on the fly. The system also has a 4WD lock mode which maximises grip on the slippery and broken ground. It works exceedingly well, finding grip even on regular summer tyres to keep you going for longer. On winter tyres you’ll be laughing through winter.

It isn’t a hardcore off-roader though. Instead, it’s an SUV for urban adventures that’ll get you out of a tricky spot. This setup pays dividends for comfort and refinement with the ASX riding exceedingly well. Road noise is minimal, and the roomy cabin makes long journeys a pleasure. Speaking of the cabin, the 2020 ASX’s has been upgraded over the old model with better materials and technologies.

These include Mitsubishi's new Smartphone-link Display Audio system which has an 8” screen with TomTom navigation built-in. New upholstery is now available as standard and optionally, with features like keyless entry and start, heated front seats and power-folding door mirrors also available as standard.

The Mitsubishi   ASX is an urban SUV with space for five passengers and a big boot (over 400-litres). It’s designed for family life, with dual ISOFIX points on the rear outermost seats and a false boot floor. Owners of the ASX claim it’s bulletproof, and while Mitsubishi could never name it as such, it certainly has a great reliability record. The 2011 ASX was given the maximum 5-star safety rating by Euro NCAP and the 2020 model is expected to follow suit, although a list of the safety assist systems hasn’t been announced yet.

The order book for the new ASX will open in autumn this year with the very first models expected to hit dealerships in early 2020. Come and visit us today.
